Couperose

Treatment is possible by Nd-YAG laser

Treatment of rosacea, what are we talking about…

Dr Smarrito informs you about the laser treatment of rosacea, an advanced form of rosacea, very common in Switzerland... rosacea is an inflammatory dermatosis quite common in Switzerland which is characterized by an appearance, as its name suggests, pinkishness of the quite unsightly skin.

Rosacea, a common pathology in Switzerland…

One of the restrictive forms of this recurrent pathology is couperose. Rosacea is a real organization of small vessels on the surface of the skin which are thus made visible and unsightly. They are often located first on the side of the nose then develop over all of the cheeks or even the entire face, including the neckline. This disgrace is sometimes accentuated by the vasomotor side associated with this pathology and what we call flushes which could in some ways copy a hot flash. Visibility is increased in winter since the skin is not tanned and moreover, given the nature of vasodilation, temperature changes are enough to increase the visibility of rosacea.

Although this phenomenon can be associated with excessive alcohol consumption, this is not ultimately the rule. It should be noted that stress as well as certain foods can temporarily accentuate the effect. We can explain to you in more detail the characteristics of the rosacea. It is entirely possible to treat rosacea with a laser (Nd yag vascular laser). On the other hand, it is necessary to distinguish rosacea from erythrosis, erythrosis is in fact a simple diffuse redness which is not yet at the stage of erythro-rosacea where the vessels are organized like small red filaments on the surface of the skin. The Nd yag laser treatment will be carried out exclusively by Dr Smarrito, the light emission focused on the hemoglobin makes it possible to coagulate the micro-vessels and thus cause their disappearance by thermo-coagulation. Several sessions are necessary to reduce the effect of rosacea which is generally organized in a network on the face. It should be noted that the laser has no impact on the skin and therefore no residual scar except in excessive cases of rosacea resembling an angioma.

To be distinguished from rosacea: facial erythrosis…

Concerning erythrosis, a diagnosis can be made using our computerized skin analysis system. A specific expert treatment can improve things because in this case it is the skin's cutaneous capital that will need to be boosted, in particular by nourishing the skin. We do not recommend peels which are ultimately aggressive and in our experience accentuate the problem, on the other hand, we have observed improvements thanks to LED sessions, particularly in terms of microcirculation, reducing the unsightly impact of this redness. In this context, the treatment is completely painless.

It should be noted that it is possible to reduce erythrosis but in most cases, it is not possible to eradicate it.
